The Murray State rifle team was well represented at the 2015 National Junior Olympic Championships hosted by USA Shooting in Colorado Springs, Colorado over the weekend with three current Racers competing.
Freshmen Ivan Roe and Ben Estes tied in the 10m air rifle event with identical scores of 1234.4, but it was Roe who took home the bronze after topping Estes in center shots, 84-78. Estes turned in the second best performance of the eight finalists, but lost the tie breaker, giving Roe the place on the podium.
Fellow freshman Robert Broadstreet finished 11th in the event with a 1222.8, missing the finals by just three spots. Future Racer Eric Sloan finished in 13th in the men's division, while his classmates for next season in the women's division, Mackenzie Martin and Alathea Sellars, finished 29th and 36th, respectively in the 10m event, while Martin also finished 10th in the 50m three position event.
"This was a good day for Racer air rifle with Ivan and Ben both making the finals and Bobby finishing 11th, it was a great showing for our program," said head coach Alan Lollar. "Two have two teammates competing at the top in the finals, just made the day really special."
In total there were 195 male competitors and 184 female competitors that took part in the prestigious invitation-only event.
