The Murray State women's soccer team hits the road this weekend as they take on two teams from the state of Arkansas. On Friday, MSU will travel to Little Rock to take on the Little Rock Trojans followed by a match against Arkansas State in Jonesboro on Sunday.
The Racers are coming off a major win against Mississippi State. It was the first win for the Racers against an SEC opponent. Harriet Withers scored the first goal of the Racers' season. Taylor Richerson scored the eventual game winning penalty kick to lead MSU to a 2-1 victory.
Murray State meets Little Rock for the sixth time in the program history. The Trojans lead the series 1-3-1. Despite the advantage in the series, the Racers won the last matchup 1-0 in 2013.
Little Rock has faced two OVC opponents. The Trojans won their season opener against Tennessee Tech 2-1, but were defeated by Belmont 1-0. In their victory over Tennessee Tech, freshman Jaclyn Purvine scored the winning goal with just over a minute remain in the match.
ASU leads the series between the teams 4-6-0. In the match up last season, the Racers were defeated at home by the Red Wolves 2-3.
Arkansas State was defeated in its season opener in a double overtime loss to Southern Miss 2-1. The Red Wolves shut out Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their home opener 1-0. Sophomore goalie Makayla Cowles held her own against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, not allowing a goal in twelve attempts. Cowles had six saves in the shutout.
