Cross Country Shows Promise At Commodore Classic

Both Murray State's men's and women's cross country finished 15th at the 2015 Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.
The distances for the event at Percy Warner Park saw the women run a 5k and the men an 8k.
Murray State finishes included Brittany Bohn who set a personal record in the women's race 61st with a time of 18:13. Meagan Smith was the second to finish for the Racers with a spot in 149th place with a time of 19:17. Rebekah Priddy was not far behind finishing with a time of 19:22. In the middle of the pack for the Racers was Ali Hester (19:32), Emma Gilmore (19:36), Emily Flaherty (20:06), and Leah Krause (20:20). Rounding out the team were Jacquelyn Thate (20:24), Heatherly Paschall (20:59), Ida Mutai (21:16), Emain Griffin (21:47), and Emily Evans (24:19).
On the men's side, Gavin Galanes led the Racers with an 84th place finish with a time of 26:36. Mark Ventura was not far behind, finishing 88th (26:38). Lucas Prather finished 99th in the meet (26:50). Other Racers who competed include Vince Turner (27:15), Cole Cisneros (27:38), Neil Yockey (28:31), Austin Ackman (29:08), Evan Staviski (29:11) and Jarred Koerner (32:05).
Coach Jenny Swieton was happy with the first 8k for the men.
"It was a good start," Swieton said. "We have a little ways to go, but we have a solid group of five up front."
Murray State's next meet will be the Notre Dame Invitation October 2nd.
