This Weekend
The Racers hit the road looking for their first conference road wins as they face SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois, Oct. 7 and 8, respectively. The last time MSU faced SIUE on the road, the Racers won in four sets in late October of last season. The following night, the Racers suffered their only OVC regular season loss of the season, losing in five sets at EIU. MSU is 4-2 all-time at SIUE and is 8-14 at EIU.
Last Weekend
MSU suffered its first conference setback of the season as it was swept at Morehead State, 20-25, 22-25 and 20-25. The Racers hit a season-low .096 in the loss. Kristen Besselsen led MSU with 14 kills in the loss while libero Ellie Lorenz recorded a match-high 16 digs.
League Leaders
The Racers have a pair of student-athletes that lead the OVC in individual statistical categories. Scottie Ingram leads the league averaging 4.42 kills per set while setter Hannah Stultz is averaging a conference-leading 12.83 assists per set. Lorenz ranks second in the OVC with 4.75 digs per set.
Scouting SIU Edwardsville
The Cougars have had a resurgent season in 2016 and currently sit on top of the OVC standings with a 4-0 record. SIUE features a balanced attack with Ashley Witt and Taylor Joens leading the team with 167 and 164 kills, respectively this season. Joens leads the team with a .322 hitting percentage while Carley Ramich leads the Cougars with 60 blocks on the year. SIUE uses a two-setter system and is led by Mallory Mangun's 369 assists while Samantha Knight has 237. SIUE leads the league averaging 13.28 kills per set this season and is hitting .202 as a team and has 126 total blocks.
Scouting Eastern Illinois
Eastern Illinois is led by a trio of attackers in Taylor Smith, Maria Brown and Josie Winner who have 148, 145 and 135 kills, respectively. Smith also leads the team with 309 assists (4.41 per set) and is second with 197 digs (2.81). Lindsey Powers leads the Panthers averaging three digs per set and Gina Furlin is second on the squad averaging 3.80 assists per set.
