Scottie Ingram became just the second student-athlete in OVC volleyball history to be named Player of the Year for the third time and Ellie Lorenz was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Year to headline Murray State's All-OVC honors announced Wednesday night at the OVC Tournament banquet. Joining Ingram and Lorenz with First Team All-OVC honors were Kristen Besselsen and Hannah Stultz.
Ingram, who became the first MSU volleyball student-athlete to have her number retired, led the conference in kills per set with 4.37 and in points per set at 4.81. Ingram led the Racers with 451 kills this season and was second on the team averaging 3.39 digs per set and was third with 18 service aces.
Ingram recorded 20 double-doubles on the season and had double-digit kills in all but two matches this season, including seven matches with 20 or more kills and 16 with 15-plus. Ingram, who also took home player of the year honors in 2014 and 2015, joins Jacksonville State's Abbey Breit (2005-07) as the only other three-time winner.
Lorenz led the OVC with 5.84 digs per set during league play this season, nearly a full dig per set more than Belmont's Ellie Ivancich who was second in the OVC with 4.85. Lorenz also led the conference in all matches played this season with 5.30 digs per set. Lorenz's 557 digs this season are the fifth-most in a single season in program history.
In all but three matches this season, Lorenz has reached double-figure digs, all three of those matches in which she didn't, were just three-set matches. Lorenz had 12 matches with 20 or more digs this year, including four with 30 or more.
Besselsen received All-OVC honors for the second consecutive season after she ranked sixth in the league during conference play with 3.40 kills and 4.02 points per set. Besselsen was second on the team with 233 kills and 22 aces this season and was third in digs per set with 2.51. Besselsen had 12 matches with 10 or more kills this year and had five double-doubles.
Stultz took home first team honors after she led the league with 11.98 assists per set and 33 service aces. Stultz also engineered an offense that led the league with a .229 hitting percentage and 14.93 kills per set. Stultz averaged 2.01 digs per set this season and had five double-doubles. This season, Stultz had five matches where she recorded 50 or more assists and was named the OVC Setter of the Week four times.
Four student-athletes being named All-OVC sets a new program record. The previous mark was three set in 2015, 2014, 2009, 2006, 1997, 1996, 1990 and 1988. This season, MSU became the sixth team in league history to win three consecutive OVC titles. The Racers are 44-4 the past three years in OVC play.
The Racers begin OVC Tournament play Thursday at 7 p.m., at Racer Arena as MSU faces the No. 8 seed Jacksonville State.
