Racers Sweep JSU to Open OVC Tournament

The Murray State volleyball team opened OVC Tournament play with a 3-0 sweep over Jacksonville State Thursday night inside of Racer Arena to push its winning streak to 13. The top-seeded Racers defeated the No. 8 seed Gamecocks 25-14, 25-21 and 25-23.
Three-time OVC Player of the Year Scottie Ingram led the way with a match-high 14 kills and also added six digs. The rest of the Racers (21-8) were very balanced as Kristen Besselsen, Olivia Chatman and Kamille Jones all added six kills. Chatman hit .357 on the night, and along with Besselsen, led the way at the net defensively with three blocking assists. Rachel Giustino added five kills and Dacia Brown and Megan Lindsay each chipped in with four.
Hannah Stultz added a double-double to her season output as she led the way with 39 assists and also had 10 digs. Stultz, Besselsen and Alex Kaufmann each led MSU with two service aces apiece. Kaufmann had 13 digs defensively while OVC Defensive Player of the Year Ellie Lorenz tallied a match-high 21 digs.
For the match, MSU recorded those six service aces and had just one serving error while the Gamecocks (18-19) didn't record a single ace. MSU also out-hit JSU .213 to .103 in the match while the Gamecocks totaled 10.5 team blocks to the Racers' three.
The Racers return to action Friday night for their semifinal matchup against the fifth-seeded Colonels of Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m. EKU advanced to the semis with a four-set victory over defending OVC Tournament Champion Belmont.
