Racers Battle Past EKU in Four - Advance to Saturday's Title Match

For the third consecutive season the Murray State volleyball team has advanced to the Championship Match of the OVC Tournament after the Racers were able to defeat Eastern Kentucky in four hard-fought sets Friday night at Racer Arena. MSU defeated the No. 5 seed 25-13, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-22.
With the win, the Racers advance to meet SIU Edwardsville for the third time this season in the title match. MSU (22-8) was able to defeat the Cougars both times previously this season in five sets. Match time is set for 7 p.m., at Racer Arena.
Friday night, it was the senior duo of Kristen Besselsen and Scottie Ingram that led the way for the Racers. Ingram led the way offensively with a match-high 20 kills and also had 19 digs for her 21st double-double of the season. Besselsen added 14 kills and tallied a match-high 20 digs, setting a new career-high in that statistic for her.
Hannah Stultz notched her second consecutive double-double of the tournament as she recorded 49 assists and 10 digs, and with Dacia Brown, recorded a team-high two service aces. In the back row, libero Ellie Lorenz chipped in with 16 digs and Alex Kaufmann had nine.
At the net, the Racers out-blocked the Colonels (15-15) 7-6, with Besselsen leading the way with two solo blocks and two blocking assists while Olivia Chatman had three block assists. MSU also had one more ace on the night (7-6) and both teams recorded three service errors.
For the match, the Racers hit .195 in the win while EKU was held to just .082 and only hit above .100 in one set, the first one, in which MSU hit .457 as a team. The win is the Racers' 14th consecutive on the year.
