Go West Ladies! Racers Paired With UCLA At NCAA's

The Murray State Racers learned of their NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament assignment Sunday when the team gathered at Mister B's restaurant in Murray, Kentucky to watch the NCAA selection show on ESPNU.
The 2016 Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament champions will travel to The Golden State to take on the UCLA Bruins in a Friday game that will start at 10 p.m. CT from Los Angeles.
When the news came over the bank of televisions at the restaurant, the reaction was astonishment, that the Racers were headed west.
"UCLA was the farthest thing from my mind, because we were expecting to be sent to Missouri," said MSU coach Dave Schwepker whose Racers are 76-17 in the last three seasons. "UCLA showed up (as our pairing) and I think it's pretty exciting."
The Racers played a tough schedule this season to prepare for a moment like this as they represent the Ohio Valley Conference at the NCAA level.
"We played Oregon and Illinois and SIU was awesome and we played a lot of great teams this season," Schwepker added. "But that was what we wanted to do is get some bigger matches in, so if we were to make it to the NCAA Tournament, we wouldn't be shell-shocked and would know what we're getting ourselves into."
The Racers are making their second NCAA appearance in three seasons. MSU played Illinois in 2014 and 2003, their only other NCAA appearances in program history.
Murray State (23-8) will face a UCLA team that is the No. 10 national seed and ranked eighth in the last coaches' poll. UCLA (23-5) is 12th in the latest NCAA RPI.
The Racers take one of their best all-time teams to the City of Angels. Scottie Ingram, is the Racers' all-time leader in career kills and a three-time OVC Player of the Year. A veteran group of All-OVC performers including Kristen Besselsen, Ellie Lorenz, Hannah Stultz will also be in the mix for MSU.
MSU has played only one time in California. That happened in 1990 under Coach Oscar Segovia when the Racers played a three-game swing at San Diego State, American International and Loyola Marymount.
