Friday
For just the third time in program history and second time in the last three seasons, the Murray State volleyball team will be playing in the NCAA Tournament as the Racers face the No. 10 national seed UCLA Friday at 10 p.m. in Los Angeles. This marks just the second time in program history and fourth match overall that the Racers will play in the state of California. MSU played three matches in San Diego back in 1990 under Head Coach Oscar Segovia. MSU faced San Diego State, American International and Loyola-Marymount 26 years ago.
Let's Go Streaking
The Racers have now won 15 consecutive matches, having last lost way back on October 1 when they were swept by Morehead State. Since that last loss 61 days ago, MSU has won seven matches on the road and eight at home, including three in the OVC Tournament. If the Racers are able to upset the Bruins, they would tie the program record for consecutive matches won at 16, set last season.
All-Tournament Team
Scottie Ingram became just the fifth student-athlete in program history to be named the MVP of the OVC Tournament after MSU's five-set victory in the title match over SIU Edwardsville. Ingram joins Kim Koehler (1989), Melisa Webster ('92), Nikki Wang ('03) and former teammate Sam Bedard ('14) as the only Racers to receive the honor. Joining Ingram on the All-Tournament Team were fellow seniors Kristen Besselsen and Ellie Lorenz.
All-Time Rankings
Both Ingram and Lorenz have cemented their place in the history books among the all-time statistical rankings lists. Ingram became the all-time career kills leader in program history in MSU's win over SIUE and now has 1,574 for her career. Ingram's 506 kills this season are the sixth-most in school history for a single season. Meanwhile, Lorenz's 1,850 career digs are the fourth-most in MSU history and her 622 this season rank third all-time for one season.
Scouting UCLA
The No. 10 national-seeded Bruins are led by a balanced offensive attack that is hitting .243 as a team in 2016. UCLA is led by Reily Buechler's 362 kills while Jordan Anderson is second on the squad with 350 kills this season. Torrey Van Winden is third on the Bruins with 270 kills and Jennie Frager is fourth with 250 and is hitting a team-best .358 on the year. Both Frager and Van Winden were First Team All-Pac-12 honorees.
The Bruins run a two-setter offense and are led in assists by Ryann Chandler's 853 (7.55 per set). Libero Taylor Formico leads UCLA with 573 digs and is the Pac-12's back-to-back Libero of the Year. As a team, the Bruins have 271 total blocks.
