Bats Silenced in Game Two Loss

German Hernandez pitched eight innings of one-hit baseball and struck-out eight batters as he led Bethune-Cookman to a 6-0 victory in game two over Murray State Saturday in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Racers collected just three hits overall in the loss.
MSU (1-1) was led offensively by Brandon Gutzler who had two of the hits as he went 2-for-4. Caleb Hicks had the third in the loss. The Racers had just five baserunners the entire game.
The Wildcats (1-1) jumped out to an early lead with a three-run bottom of the first. After Demetrius Sims reached on an error and later came around to score, a two-run homer from Danny Rodriguez pushed BCU in front 3-0. The Wildcats were able to score two more in the fifth, one of which was unearned and got a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 6-0.
Austin Dubsky got the start and picked up the loss for the Racers. Dubsky pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out four. Blake Clynes pitched 1.2 innings of relief and allowed two earned in his debut.
Tyler Anderson and Sheldon Baxter also made relief appearances in the contest. Anderson allowed one hit and recorded three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work while Baxter, pitching in his home state, struck-out a pair of batters in an inning.
The rubber game of the series is Sunday at 11 a.m., Murray time.
