Honoring the 'Breds Tradition With Coach Reagan
3/23/2016 10:18:00 AM | Baseball, Hall of Fame
Murray State baseball and Head Coach Kevin Moulder have made plans to hold their annual First Pitch Dinner on Thursday, March 31Â at the CFSB Center. This year, Murray State will be honoring the Thoroughbred tradition with former MSU baseball coaching legend Johnny Reagan.
Tickets for the event are $50 per person and are on sale now. Call (270) 809-3000 for information and to order tickets. Please RSVP by March 24th.
Â
During his 36 years as a coach for Murray State baseball (1958-93), Coach Reagan led MSU to a 776-508-11 record and 11 Ohio Valley Conference championships, with his final title coming in 1991. At the time of his retirement in 1993, Reagan was the all-time winningest coach in OVC history.
A 10-time OVC Coach of the Year, Reagan's best season came in 1975, when his team posted a 40-9 record, was ranked as high as 12th in the NCAA baseball poll and became the OVC's first NCAA postseason playoff participant. Reagan again led MSU to postseason play in 1979, a team which came within one game of qualifying for the College World Series.
His teams hold most of the program's records, among which are the best season single-season winning percentage (.871 in 1963), the longest winning streak (21 games), highest national ranking (12th), lowest earned run-average for pitching staff and a host of individual records.
Reagan has been inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the OVC Hall of Fame and the Missouri Basketball Hall of Fame. Both the Bismarck, Mo., and Murray State baseball fields bear his name.
"I am extremely excited about this year's First Pitch Dinner," said coach Moulder.
"It will be a great opportunity to honor the Thoroughbred tradition with Coach Reagan. Murray State has a storied baseball history and it will be fun to reflect on that and honor those who had such a large role in creating such a great legacy. I think it is going to be a really special evening and combined with our home weekend series, a great weekend-long event."
This year's event will take place in the CFSB Center. A time of reception begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner and a program to start at 6:30.
