Racers Win the DMR at the OVC Indoor Championship

The Murray State track and field team took on the rest of the Ohio Valley Conference as they competed in the first day of the 2016 OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship.
The Racers took home four medals the first day as the DMR team placed first with a time of 11:57. Brittany Bohn started the relay off in the 1200 meters. Bohn found her way to the front of the pack just in time to make the hand off to Jocelyn Payne. Payne kept the lead for the Racers as she ran the 400 meter leg of the race. Emma Gilmore ran the next part of the race, the 800 meters, and kept the lead in tact for Ali Hester as she wrapped up the relay with the mile. Hester had a small lead for the Racers but was followed closely behind by her competitors. In the last lap, she made her move as she distanced herself from the pack and gave the Racers with first win of the championship.
The meet started with the pentathlon. Jabreuna Brimlett and Taylor McCammon started the event well in the 55 meter hurdles. Brimlett finished second in the event with a time of 8.09 and McCammon finished in third with a time of 8.27. In the high jump Brimlett set a new personal record as the cleared 1.63 meters to take third place in the event. McCammon also set a new personal best in the event as she cleared 1.60 meters.
McCammon was on a roll heading into the shot put. The sophomore through a personal best 10.38 meters to take fourth in the event. Brimlett also set a personal record as she threw 9.34 to take sixth in the event. In the long jump, Brimlett was just off her personal best as the freshman jumped 5.55 meters to take second in the event. McCammon finished fourth in the event as she jumped 5.39 meters. Brimlett finished the 800 meters with a time of 3:04 and McCammon finished with a time of 3:03.
Brimlett finished fifth (3274) and McCammon (3221) finished eighth in the pentathlon giving the Racers their first team points of the day.
In the 800 meter preliminaries, Gilmore finished with the best time for the Racers as she ran 2:13 which is just a second off her personal best. Tia Weston ran 2:17 which is among one of her best times. Emani Griffin ran 2:25 in the event. Gilmore's time is fifth in the preliminaries and she qualifies for the finals on Saturday.
Brimlett finished fifth in the long jump as she jumped a career best 5.73 meters which ranks eighth all-time at MSU.
Brianna McCarthy was the lone Racer to participate in the weight throw. McCarthy threw 14.10 meters to finish seventh in her heat.
In the 55 meter dash, Tamdra Lawrence won her heat and finished fifth overall in the preliminaries as she finished with a time of 7.08. Her time ranks fifth all time at MSU. Deja Rodgers finished third in her heat as she ran 7.28. Her time ranks tenth all time at Murray State. Jocelyn Payne also finished third in her heat as she finished with a time of 7.32. Lawrence qualifies for the finals in the event on Saturday.

McCammon finished third in her heat with time of 8.24. her time is tied for seventh place all-time at Murray State. Both Brimlett and McCammon qualify for the finals in the event.
In the 200 meters, Rodgers finished third in her heat with a time of 25.81. Lawrence finished first in her heat as she finished with a time of 24.62. Lawrence qualifies for the event finals on Saturday.
In the high jump Taylor Horton cleared 1.47 meters. Aubrey Main also competed in the event as she cleared 1.57 meters.
The OVC Indoor Championship wraps up tomorrow with the women's shot put, triple jump, and pole vault all starting at 1 p.m.
