One run in the third inning proved to be all the offense Northwestern State needed Sunday, as it slipped past the Murray State softball team, 1-0, at the Lady Demon Diamond in Natchitoches, Louisiana in the final game of a three game series.

Northwestern State (11-5) scored the only run of the game by either team in the third after Sidney Salmans doubled with one out. Salmans would eventually come around for the game-winning run, thanks to back-to-back singles from Jordan Rains and Kellye Kincannon. Murray State (4-5) had six base runners in the game, including four in scoring position, but were unable to push any across the plate and fell 1-0.

Junior Mallory Young accounted for half of MSU's hits on the day by going 2-for-3 with two doubles to lead the Racers. Junior Mason Robinson (3-3) took the hard-luck loss for Murray State after allowing only one run on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

The Racers will resume play next Friday and Saturday at the 2016 Wilson/DeMarini Classic in Auburn, Alabama with games against Auburn, Indiana, Georgia State and Bryant. However, on Thursday night the Racers will play a pre-classic game against the third-ranked hosts.
