Lollar, Racers Receive National Accolades

Murray State rifle head coach Alan Lollar was named as the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association's National Coach of the Year, while sophomores Ivan Roe and Ben Estes and freshmen Barbara Schläpfer and MacKenzie Martin were named as All-Americans at the awards banquet Saturday night following the 2016 NCAA Rifle Championship in Akron, Ohio.
Lollar's award is the first of his career and comes on the heels of one of the most successful season in recent memory for the MSU rifle team. The 2015-16 MSU rifle squad set multiple scoring records, won the 2016 OVC championship and finished third at the NCAA Championship, the school's highest finish since 2003.
In individual awards, Roe was named as a first-team All-American selection by the CRCA and a first-team selection in both air rifle and smallbore by the National Rifle Association. Schläpfer was also named a first-teamer in smallbore by the NRA, while also being named as second-team honoree in air rifle and as a second-teamer by the CRCA.
Martin earned honorable mention honors from the CRCA and from the NRA in air rifle, while also picking up a second-team nod from the NRA in smallbore. Rounding out the award winners Saturday night was Estes, who was named to the smallbore second team by the NRA.
The All-American awards were the second in the careers for Estes and Roes, while it was the first for Martin and Schläpfer, making them the 53rd and 54th individual All-Americans in MSU history.
