Records Fall In Big Win at SEMO

The game began with a 47-minute first inning in which Murray State (10-13, 1-2) scored 11 hits on 10 hits and one Southeast Missouri error. The 11 runs in the opening stanza is the most ever scored in a single-inning by the Racers, surpassing the previous record of 10, set last season at Tennessee Tech.
The game began simple enough as Shelbey Miller, Brenna Finck and Jessica Twaddle, loaded the bases on three consecutive singles. With the bases loaded, Cayla Levins hit the 13th grand slam in MSU history, becoming the 10th player to accomplish the feat. Levins would go on to finish the game at 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two runs and six RBIs. While the Racers would not have another inning as big as the first they would add five more runs on 10 more hits, all while keeping the Redhawks (8-12, 2-1) at bay, to seal the 16-5 win.
Leah Kesel was a perfect 4-for-4 in the contest to go along three runs, while Miller was 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Jocelynn Rodgers also had multiple hits in the contest, going 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI, as did Brenna Finck who was 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk. Taylor Odom was the only other Racer to homer in the game, as she was 1-for-2 with a run, a home run, a RBI and a walk.
Mason Robinson moved to 7-7 on the year by allowing five runs on five hits over 4.0 innings. Haven Campbell finished the game for MSU and gave up no hits, runs or walks and struck out one in the final frame of the contest.
Murray State returns to action Wednesday when it travels to the heart of the Commonwealth for a showdown with 15th-ranked Kentucky at 4 p.m.
