Racers Come Up Short In Rematch With Indiana
3/6/2016 11:56:00 AM | Softball
A walk-off RBI single in the seventh inning led to 1-0 loss for the Murray State softball team Sunday at the hands of Indiana at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Alabama on the final day of the 2016 Wilson/DeMarini Classic.
Murray State (6-8) outhit the Hoosiers (11-7), prior to the bottom of seventh, 3-2, with junior Cayla Levins accounting for two of those hits. The Racers' best chance on the day came in the third, when junior Maggie Glass led off with a walk and was moved to second on a bunt single from Levins. Glass stood on third after senior Shelbey Miller advanced both runners on a ground out, but MSU would not score as Indiana's Josie Wood fanned the last batter of the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Michelle Huber led off with a double for Indiana and was then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. After MSU walked the next batter, Huber's pinch runner, Alyssa Rosati, scored on the next play, thanks to a single from Sarah Galovich, breaking the tie and giving the Hoosiers the win.
Junior Jessica Twaddle was the only other Racer to tally a hit in the game, going 1-for-1 with two walks, while Levins finished at 2-for-3. Junior Mason Robinson (4-4) took the loss for Murray State, giving up just one run on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Next weekend, MSU will make the long trip to Jacksonville, Florida for two games with Jacksonville and one with Ball State.
