The two-time defending OVC Champion Murray State volleyball team concluded its spring season this past weekend at Western Kentucky.
In all, the Racers traveled to three tournaments this spring and went 9-1 overall. During the spring season, teams will play just two sets and if the two teams split the sets, the winner is determined based on points.
MSU opened the season at the SEMO tournament where the Racers defeated Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and Arkansas State. SIU finished last season 41st in the RPI while Arkansas State was 20th in the final poll.
The next weekend the Racers traveled to Evansville, Ind., for the Southern Indiana tournament where they defeated USI, Georgetown College, DePauw and Bellarmine.
This past weekend in their final competition before the fall, the Racers went 2-1 with wins over SIU and Austin Peay. MSU ended the tourney losing to WKU, who finished last season ranked 16th in the RPI, by one point.
"All in all it was a really good spring and time for our team to gel without the fantastic seniors that we lost from last season," said Head Coach David Schwepker.Â
"I am looking forward to having these outstanding young ladies back, as well as getting to know our four new freshmen, as we begin to train and compete for the 2016 OVC Title."Â
