Racers Travel To TSU Saturday, Host Belmont Sunday

This Weekend's Games
The Racers will return to OVC play this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders. On Saturday, the Racers will make the short drive to Nashville to take on Tennessee State, followed by hosting Belmont at Racer Field Sunday.
Previously On Racer Softball
Despite out-hitting Southern Illinois, the Racer fell 10-5, Thursday afternoon at Racer Field in Murray. The two teams combined for 25 hits in the contest with the Racers holding a 14-11 advantage.
A rough sixth inning where SIU scored six unearned runs gave the Salukis a commanding 10-2 lead in what had been a close game. The Racers added three in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough as they fell, 10-5.
Maggie Glass led MSU in the game by going 3-for-4 with three doubles, a run and a RBI, while Jessica Twaddle was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Leah Kesel and Cayla Levins were also both 2-for-4 in the game, while Erika Downey was 2-for-2 with a two runs and a double.

All-Time vs. Tennessee State
Murray State swept TSU last season in Murray to extend its current streak in the series to five games and improve its overall record over the Tigers to 11-2. In Nashville, the Racers are 6-2 against Tennessee State, losing just once in the back end of the first doubleheader played between the two teams in 2010.
Scouting The Tigers
Tennessee State suffered its 15th loss in a row Thursday in Nashville, dropping a 10-1 decision to Kennesaw State. The Tigers will now enter the weekend at 7-30 overall and 0-10 in the OVC. As a team, the Tigers are hitting .236 and are led by Laura Dreitlein, who is batting at a .341 clip. Courtney Geralds follows Dreitlein with a .3397 average and leads the team in RBIs with 14.
Pitching wise, the TSU staff has a 6.21 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .382 against them. Lauren Woodard has served as the Tigers' ace this season and is 2-16 in 28 appearances and 19 starts with a team-low 6.21 ERA.
All-Time vs. Belmont
The Racers split with Belmont last season in Nashville bringing the overall series to 9-3, in favor of the Racer. Sunday will mark the Bruins' third trip to Murray, where MSU currently is undefeated against them at 4-0.
Scouting The Bruins
The Bruins will enter the weekend on a hot streak having won five of its last six games, including a three wins over Tennessee Tech last weekend. The sweep of Tech pushed the Bruins to 5-5 in conference play and 12-23 overall. Hayley Baker is currently batting .373 to lead Belmont, which is hitting .260 as a team. Chelsey Deloney and Kayla Wells follow Baker at .304, each, while Jordan Spicer leads the team in RBIs with 16 to go along with a .298 average. In the circle, Ashley Johnson leads her team with 17 starts and is 3-10 with 5.91 ERA. The Bruins' staff as a whole has a 4.38 ERA and limits opponents to a .276 average.
Weather Forecast
In Nashville Saturday, there will be plenty of sunshine with a minimal chance of rain, although it will be cold, as the high is currently predicted at just 55°F. Sunday in Murray should be considerably warmer with a high of 68°F.
A Double Record
In Thursday's loss to SIU, Murray State reeled off six doubles to set a new program single-game record. The previous record was five, which had been accomplished six previous times.
A Double Dose of Double Records
In addition to the team record, Maggie Glass tied the program's individual single-game record for doubles with three. She is now tied with former Racer and fellow Hopkinsville native Casey Castile, who also hit three doubles in 2013 against Bowling Green.
A Double Triple
With her eighth double of the season Thursday, Shelbey Miller is now in commanding lead of the all-time MSU doubles category with 46. Earlier this season she passed former record holder Alexa Becker, who finished her career with 39.
