Racers Blank UTM On Senior Day

The Murray State softball team sent its four senior out with a wins, as it shutout UT Martin, 5-0, for the second consecutive game Sunday afternoon at Racer Field. The day, which began with a celebration of J.J. Francis, Erica Howard, Shelbey Miller and Brianne Sanders, was originally scheduled to be doubleheader, but was cut to a single game due to rain.
Howard began the scoring in the second for Murray State with a double that scored Taylor Odom, who reached on a single earlier in the inning. The Racers made it 2-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly from Jessica Twaddle that scored Miller from third.
In the fourth, the Racers exploded for three runs off of five hits to cap the scoring at 5-0. Miller scored two of the runs on a double, while Cayla Levins plated the fifth with a single, as Murray State would go on to complete the 5-0 win.
Mason Robinson pushed her streak of scoreless innings to 28 in the contest by notching her third straight shutout, solo or combined. She moved to 16-14 on the season by allowing just two hits with only one walk and two strikeouts over five full innings. Francis finished the game for Racers by keeping the Skyhawks hitless and scoreless over the final two innings.
Howard, Miller, Levins, Odom and Leah Kesel all had two hits in the contest, while Brenna Finck added a single to give the Racers 11 total on the day.
The Racers now travel to Clarksville for a three-game series with Austin Peay Saturday and Sunday to close out the regular-season.
