MSU Releases 2016 Volleyball Schedule

The two-time defending OVC Champion Murray State volleyball team has released its 2016 schedule. The Racers will play 28 matches total in the fall, including 12 non-conference matchups and 16 in OVC play. Eight matches will be played at Racer Arena, all in conference play.
MSU will face strong competition during its non-conference slate as the Racers will play in four tournaments in 2016 and also have a non-conference tilt at Southern Illinois.
The Racers open the season at the IPFW Invitational in Fort Wayne, Ind. MSU's season opener will come against host-IPFW on Aug. 26. Aug. 27, MSU will face Ball State and Youngstown State. The following weekend, the Racers travel west to play in the Oregon Tournament where they will face the host Ducks and California Davis on Sept. 2. The following day, MSU will play San Diego State.
Sept. 6, the Racers will face Southern Illinois in Carbondale in a 7 p.m. matchup, the Salukis finished last season ranked 41st in the RPI. That weekend, MSU will play a pair of matches Sept. 9 at the Butler Classic against Wright State and Butler.
The Racers will close their non-conference schedule Sept. 16 and 17 at the Billiken Invite. MSU faces host- Saint Louis on the 16th and Illinois and Omaha on the 17th. Illinois appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and finished the year ranked 15th in the country.
MSU begins its OVC title defense Sept. 23 in its home opener against UT Martin. It will be the first of three consecutive home matches to begin conference play for the Racers. The Racers also host Southeast Missouri on Sept. 24 and Austin Peay Sept. 27 in the homestand.
The month of October opens with three straight road matches for the Racers as they travel to face Morehead State Oct. 1, SIU Edwardsville Oct. 7 and Eastern Illinois Oct. 8. The Racers return home Oct. 14 and 15 as they host Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State.
MSU will then enter a stretch of five consecutive road matches, traveling to Nashville Oct. 21 and 22 to face Tennessee State and Belmont. The following weekend, the Racers play SEMO Oct. 28 and UT Martin Oct. 29 before ending their road swing at Austin Peay Nov. 2.
The final three regular season matches of the season will all be at Racer Arena as MSU hosts Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 5 and Eastern Illinois and SIUE Nov. 11 and 12, respectively. The OVC Tournament begins Nov. 17 and will be played on the campus of the regular season champions. The Racers are looking to host the tournament for the third consecutive season.
