The two-time defending OVC Champion Murray State volleyball team opened fall camp this week in Racer Arena. The Racers' first full week features three practices a day until classes begin Aug. 16.
MSU returns eight student-athletes this season from the 2015 roster, including two-time OVC Player of the Year in outside hitter Scottie Ingram and 2015 All-OVC Team member Kristen Besselsen. Besselsen and Ingram are two of five seniors on the Racers in 2016, joining Audrey Lewis, Ellie Lorenz and Hannah Stultz, entering their senior campaigns.
"I expect the seniors to do more than everybody else," said Head Coach David Schwepker.
"That's part of it. Just because they've been there, done that and won the last couple of seasons, doesn't mean they can do less. We'll see if they can do that and live up to what my expectations of them are."
Dacia Brown, Olivia Chatman and Kamille Jones also return this season and are joined by newcomers Rachel Giustino, Alex Kaufmann, Megan Lindsay and Courtney Radle.
The Racers had a historic 2015 season, winning a program record 27 matches and went 15-1 in OVC play to claim their second consecutive outright regular season title. MSU also won a school record 16 straight matches at one point last year and had a 21-match home winning streak that ended in the OVC Tournament finals.
MSU opens its season Aug. 26-27 as they travel to the Fort Wayne Invitational where the Racers will face Fort Wayne, Ball State and Youngstown State.
