The Murray State Racers scored a 2-0 win in their 2016 home opener over the Chattanooga Mocs Friday at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.

The win evened the Racers' record at 1-1 as they head to play Vanderbilt in Nashville on Thursday (Sept. 1).

Freshman Emma Heise scored her first goal as a Racer in the 34th minute on play only yards from the goal. Another freshman, Karsyn Hasch had the assist on the play to give MSU a 1-0 lead.

The 1-0 lead held through halftime.

Aaron Lankster made a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute with a tap in from the left side off an assist by Mazie Fry.

The Racers' defensive effort was stellar in recording their first shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald got her seventh career shutout at Murray State. She faced 18 shots and made a career-high 12 saves.

The Racers kept the pressure on the Mocs all day and put 10 shots on goal with three from Lankster and a pair from Anna Richards and Ali Critcher.

Next up for the Racers is a Thursday game at Vanderbilt (Sept. 1). The start time at Vanderbilt Soccer Complex Field is 5:30 p.m. MSU comes back home (Sept. 4) for a contest with Arkansas State.
