"We just flat out didn't show up," he said. "The second half was much better for us and we competed and outshot them and showed that we can play at this level. We need to bounce back and I'm glad we get the chance to do that this Sunday."
The Racers return to Cutchin field on Sunday (Sept. 4) to take on the Red Wolves of Arkansas State. The series favors the Red Wolves 5-6 against the Racers of all time. Admission is free for the 2 p.m. start.
Game Notes
The Racers and Commodores had met just once before today. That was in 2009 at VU where MSU suffered a 4-0 defeat.
The Racers had seven shots for the game with all of them coming in the second half.
The shutout at VU is MSU's first this season in three games and their first since falling 1-0 at Ole Miss last November in the NCAA Tournament.
MSU's Sunday home game with ASU will be the 12th meeting between the Racers and Red Wolves. ASU is 1-1-2 after a home loss on Thursday to Central Arkansas. UCA won the game in the second overtime with a goal that bounced off the post and into the net. The Racers defeated ASU in Jonesboro, Ark., a year ago 3-2.
Murray State is 28-16 in the Coach Jeremy Groves era, including 17-3 at home and 11-12 on the road and 0-1 on neutral fields.
After the game at home against ASU, the Racers play at Kentucky (Sept. 11). The game marks MSU's third this season against an SEC opponent.
