Racers Host Drake Creek Invitational On Monday

The Murray State women's golf team opens its 2016-17 season Monday when the Racers host the Drake Creek Invitational in Ledbetter, Kentucky.

The 54-hole two-day event (Sep. 12-13) takes place at Drake Creek Golf Course marking the ninth time it has been held there since the first in 2009. The event was played at Miller Memorial GC in 2015.

Along with the Racers, the field of 10 schools including four members of the Ohio Valley Conference, Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State. The rest of the field is made up by Fort Wayne, Lipscomb, North Carolina A&T, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Akron.

The Drake Creek Invitational will be contested over 54 holes with 36 holes being played both Monday and Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m.

In 2015, the Racers scored a 603 in a 36-hole final with an 11-shot win over Southern Illinois. Brooke Cussamano of SIU was the medalist with scores of 74-74=148.

Former Racer Delaney Howson set the individual scoring record of 211 in 2013. The Racers set the team record of 899 in 2011.

Murray State will field two teams. The Navy team is led by 2015 OVC champion Moa Folke (Jr.) along with Sydney Trimble (Sr.), Earlena Sheets (Fr.), Linette Holmslykke (So.) and Anna Moore (Jr.). The Gold squad includes: Raeysha Surendran (Fr.), Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria (Fr.), Jane Watts (So.), Nadine Innes (So.) and Leah Rose Judd (Sr.).
