Racers Break from the Gate with Success

Men's Results I Women's Results
The Murray State cross country teams traveled to Vaughn's Creek Course at Nashville's Percy Warner Park to run in the Belmont Opener Meet on Saturday.
The women placed fourth with a score of 92, while Vanderbilt led the women meet with a score of 24. The Racers were lead by Vallery Korir who finished with a personal best of 18:10.3, putting her in eleventh place.
Freshman Mason Swenson ran in her first race for Murray State and finished fifteenth overall with a time of 18:26.3.
Both Mason Swenson and Vallery Korir moved onto the all-time 5k list for the Racers. Korir is now in eleventh place, and Swenson is in seventeenth.
The Racers now have six current runners on the all-time list.
Coach Jenny Sweiton commented after following the team's season opener, "They raced as Racers. They all worked well together and each runner was very promising."
The men finished in fifth with a score of 130. Belmont led the men with a score of 28. Mark Ventura led the pack of Racers with a time of 15:57.5 which landed him in fifteenth.
"This is the best gap the men have had," Coach Sweiton added. "This is a huge improvement for the men. They worked together well and encouraged each other."
The Racers were all within thirty seconds which made for a tight group. Zan McClelland wrapped up the top five for the Racers with a time of 16:33.
Murray State's next race is at Vanderbilt Saturday (Sept 17).
