Despite shooting a 4708 over the weekend, the Murray State rifle team's three-score average of 4717.0 did not change, thus keeping the Racers in third place in the latest rankings released by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Tuesday.
There were only two changes in the rankings after the first two weekends of 2017 with Alaska Fairbanks leapfrogging Ohio State to move from seventh to sixth and North Carolina State moving from 11th to ninth, just outside of the eight-team NCAA qualification field. The Wolfpack now sit just six points behind Nebraska in the hunt for the final spot in the NCAA Championship.
With a strong showing at home over the weekend, West Virginia, currently second, furthered its lead over MSU in the rankings, increasing the gap from 2.7 points to 3.7 points with an average of 4720.7.
Matches of note for the coming weekend include Murray State's Withrow Invitational which will see eight Top 20 teams compete over Friday and Saturday. Both top-ranked TCU and second-ranked West Virginia will also be on the range this weekend with the Horned Frogs hosting No. 7 Ohio State and Coast Guard and West Virginia welcoming No. 8 Nebraska.
