Racers Zoom Past UTM On High Speed Offense

The Murray State Racers came away with a 94-86 victory Saturday over the UT Martin Skyhawks to keep a share of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division.
The Racers (12-11) improved to 6-3 in the OVC, while UTM (15-9) dropped to 5-4 as 3,909 watched it at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
The Racers are tied for the OVC West lead as Southeast Missouri kept pace with an 82-71 win at Austin Peay.
MSU's big man Terrell Miller, Jr., played that way with 30 points of 9-of-15 from the field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. His nine rebounds was tops for MSU. Damarcus Croaker tossed in 23 points, while Bryce Jones added 13 and Jonathan Stark a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.
First half
The last minute of the half was wild when Gee McGhee scored for MSU's largest lead at 49-41 with 40-seconds left to play. UTM scored with eight-seconds remaining and then MSU's Stark missed a 3-point try with less than two-seconds on the clock. UTM's Jacolby Mobley launched a shot from the far free throw line and swished at the buzzer to make it 49-46 MSU at the intermission.
Second Half
The Racers started the second half on an 11-4 run for a 60-50 advantage after Croaker's 3-point play with 16:30 left.
After Miller hit a 3-pointer and scored in the lane, Stark made it a 7-0 MSU run for a 69-54 lead with 12:35 left to play,
When Jones hit a 3-pointer with 11:10 left, MSU had a 72-57 lead and had outscored UTM 23-11 in the half.
Jones had the rare four-point play with 10:05 left. He was fouled while making a 3-pointer and went to the line and made the free throw for a 76-62 MSU lead.
MSU's largest lead of the game was with 6:59 remaining when it was a 19-point lead at 87-68 after a pair of Miller free throws. UTM got as close to seven points when Dante Bailey hit a 3-pointer to make it 90-83 with 1:54 remaining.
Game Notes
The Racers now lead the all-time series with UTM 47-5 and are 26-1 in Murray.
MSU makes a trip to Martin on the final game of the regular season in a 6 p.m. tip at the Elam Center on Feb. 25.
MSU is 8-2 at home this season.
This game was MSU's third this season of 90 or more points against an NCAA D-I team this season. They scored a 93-77 win over Green Bay (Nov. 19) and a 91-54 win over Alabama A&M (Nov. 26).
The opening half was an amazing display of offense when MSU made 19 field goals and shot 61 percent and UTM hit 20 shots for 64 percent.
Murray State's seniors were big tonight. Croaker, McGhee and Jones combined for 45 points and 10 rebounds.
