Racers Travel To Take On High Scoring Belmont On Sunday
10/13/2017 11:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Murray State takes on Belmont for their final road test of the regular season on Sunday, October 15 at 2 p.m.
Last Time On Racer Soccer…
The Murray State Racers women's soccer team extended their Ohio Valley Conference unbeaten streak to 28-consecutive games, as they defeated Austin Peay 1-0 at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky.
Where We Rank
The Racers are currently 40th in the RPI rankings.
Records Are Meant To Be Broken
Setting new records for game winning goals, career goals, and career point, you'd think there isn't too left for Harriet Withers to break. She is now just one goal away from tying the single season record of 13 goals set in 2004.
You Can't Go Through Walls
Since letting up three goals to Little Rock on September 8, the Racers have allowed just three goals and shut out their opponents five times as well.
Time Well Spent
After Belmont, all five seniors will have played in 60 or more games for Murray State.
Better Late Than Never
15 of the 23 goals scored by the Racers this year have come in the second half or in overtime.
Getting Hot
Emma Heise has scored two goals in the last three games, including the game winning strike against Austin Peay at the 79th minute.
We Run This Conference
You have to look back to the tail end of 2014, the first season under coach Groves, that the Racers lost a regular season OVC Game. That was on October 26 against the Bruins of Belmont, where the Racers fell 2-0. Since then, Murray State has gone on a 28-game and counting conference unbeaten streak.
Home Cooking
The final two games of the regular season will be played at Cutchin Field
Know Thy Foe
The Bruins of Belmont are currently riding a three-game winning streak with victories against Jacksonville State, UT Martin and Southeast Missouri. The Bruins have scored 33 goals this year, and is led by Belicia Mendiola's nine goals.
Along with the nine from Mendiola, four Bruins have found the back of the four times each. Lilly Herman has seen the bulk of the action, playing in 12 games this year, making 33 saves and allowing 16 of the 21 goals allowed. She also has all three shutouts for Belmont. Much like the Racers, Belmont has scored the majority of their goals after the first frame, with 24 goals coming in the second half.
Last Time They Met
The Racers came away with a 1-0 victory against Belmont at Cutchin Field with Taylor Richerson doing the honors and scoring the lone goal of the match at the 20th minute.
All Time Record
The Racers trail the Bruins in the all-time series 3-5-0. Murray State fell behind early, losing five of the first six contest, but have rallied to defeat Belmont the last two times they've met.
Who's Next?
Eastern Illinois comes to town next on Thursday, October 19 at 3 p.m.
