Kubin's Blast Clinches OVC Regular Season Title

The Murray State Racers women's soccer team clinched their third straight Ohio Valley Conference regular season title with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Illinois Tuesday afternoon at Cutchin Field.
Murray State moves to 12-1-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the OVC while EIU ends their season 5-12-2 overall and 0-9-1 overall in the OVC.
"We're 12-1-2 overall, which is an unbelievable accomplishment, and then there's our RPI and the fact we're receiving votes in the coaches poll. I'm proud of our team and what they've done this year," said head coach Jeremy Groves.
The Racers were all over the Panthers, who despite keeping most of their players back, couldn't withstand the offensive barrage the Racers threw at them. Murray State took 30 total shots , with 10 getting on net.
With the ball 25-yards out, Emma Heise fed Rebecca Kubin a pass that turned into a long range strike up and over the keeper, finding the back of the next at the 76th minute of play.
This marks the third straight game the Racers have defeated their opponents 1-0.
Alex Steigerwald only had to make two saves against EIU for her 12th win of the year.
Murray State will once again host the OVC Tournament, with the semifinals and championship match played at Cutchin Field. The OVC Tournament will see the top-eight teams advance. The no. 1 and no. 2 teams get byes into the semifinals while the no. 3 and no.4 teams will get byes into the quarterfinals. The no.6 and no. 7 teams will play at the no. 3 team's location and no.5 and no.8 at the no.4 team's location.
Murray State will honor the class of 2017 as SIU Edwardsville comes to town on Sunday, October 22 at 2 p.m.
