Racers Come Back - Beat SIUE On Senior Day

The Murray State Racers came from behind on senior day to win 2-1 over SIU Edwardsville at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky.

A pair of goals from freshman Rebecca Kubin was the difference in the Racers' final regular season home game. The victory pushed the Racers' Ohio Valley Conference regular season unbeaten streak to 31 since their last loss in 2014 to Belmont. This is the third straight season the Racers haven't lost in the OVC after going 10-0-0 in 2015 and 7-0-3 in 2016. The Racers finish the 2017 OVC regular season at 8-0-2 and have won the last three titles.

"After the first half, I thought we were a lot better and tougher on the ball. In the end we found ways to score and win the game," said head coach Jeremy Groves after the win.

With the win, Murray State moves to 13-1-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference while SIUE drops to 6-9-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the OVC.

For just the third time this year the Racers trailed their opponent, as the Cougars scored the first goal of the game just four and a half minutes into the first half.

Both goals for the Racers came in the second frame, with the tying goal coming from Kubin at the 67^th minute, cleaning up a rebound initially shot by Annamarie Arino to make it a 1-1 game.

With less than two minutes remaining in the game, Arino crossed a pass into the box to Kubin, who headed it in to give the Racers a 2-1 lead.

Alex Steigerwald picks up her 13th win of the season, moving to 13-1-2 on the year.

After clinching the OVC regular season title Thursday with a win over Eastern Illinois, Murray State will get a week off as the No. 1 seed in the OVC Tournament, and will next play on Friday, November 3 at 2 p.m. at Cutchin Field.
