This Weekend
Murray State returns home this weekend to host Belmont and Tennessee State at Racer Arena. The last time the Bruins came to Racer Arena in 2015, they defeated the Racers in four sets in the OVC Tournament Championship match. MSU came from behind to defeat Belmont in five sets last season in Nashville during the regular season. Against the Tigers, the Racers are looking for their fifth consecutive win in the series and third straight at home.
Last Weekend
Murray State split its two road matches last weekend, losing in four sets at Jacksonville State and closing the weekend with a sweep of Tennessee Tech. Ashley McBee recorded a pair of double-doubles over the weekend, recording 40 assists and 12 digs at JSU and 34 assists and a career-best 16 digs in the victory over TTU. Alex Kaufmann averaged 5.29 digs per set in the two matches.
Scouting Belmont
Perennial All-OVC performer Arianna Person, who has 261 kills (3.58 per set), is hitting .222 and is third on the team with 188 digs, leads the Bruins. Brie Lewis is second on the team with 163 kills while Jessica Vestal and Alexa Nichols are third and fourth, respectively with 155 and 151 kills. Akia Warrior leads Belmont with 328 assists (8.41) on the year and has led the Bruins to a .186 team hitting percentage. The Bruins are second in the league behind MSU with 121 service aces.
Scouting Tennessee State
Rachel Henderson leads the Tigers with 218 kills and a .237 hitting percentage. Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus leads the back row defensively with 370 digs (4.74 per set) while Samantha Beltran is averaging 8.85 assists per set (690). As a team, TSU is hitting .159, has 75 aces and 121.5 blocks.
Alumni Weekend
This weekend will be Alumni Weekend for the Murray State volleyball program. All former MSU volleyball players and their families have been invited to attend the festivities.
Besides the Friday match against Belmont, on Saturday there will be a tailgate and social outside Racer Arena from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (bring your own food and drinks, tables will be provided).
Alumni will be recognized in-between sets two and three of the Tennessee State match. All family and friends are also welcome to a buffet dinner held in the Racer Room at Stewart Stadium from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children at the door.
