Racer Women Get Season Going At OVC Media Day

Ke'Shunan James was named to the Preseason All-OVC Women's Basketball Team and Murray State was selected to finish in a tie for eighth in the OVC Preseason Coaches and SID poll released Tuesday morning at OVC Media Day in Evansville, Ind.
The Racers received a total of 101 points in the poll along with Southeast Missouri. Defending league regular season and tournament champion Belmont was tabbed as the preseason favorite with 242 points and received 22 of the 24 first-place votes. UT Martin, who was picked third in the poll, received the other two first-place votes. Coaches and SIDs were not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.
James, who is a two-time First Team All-OVC honoree, led the league in scoring last season, averaging 21.6 points per game during conference play and was 17thnationally in scoring overall at 20.5 points per contest, while her 594 points were the fifth-highest single-season mark in program history. James also ranked fifth in the OVC with 8.3 rebounds per game and was ninth in assists at 3.8 per. Her 48.1 percent shooting from the floor was the 10th-best mark in the league.
MSU, under first-year head coach Rechelle Turner, opens the season with an exhibition Nov. 2 against Georgetown (Ky.) at the CFSB Center. The regular season tips off at Evansville Nov. 12. The Racers' home opener is Nov. 15 against Butler at 11 a.m.
