Murray State volleyball coach David Schwepker has announced the addition of two student-athletes that will be joining the Racers in 2018 in Rachel Kinney from Indianapolis, Ind., and Emily Matson from Waukesha, Wis.
Rachel Kinney, 5-11, OH, Indianapolis, Ind., Franklin High School
Kinney has received all-conference and all-county honors each of the past three seasons for the Grizzly Cubs. The three-year starter and captain at Franklin High School helped lead the Grizzly Cubs to their first conference title in over ten years. For her career, Kinney has recorded 998 kills and is averaging 3.6 kills per set. In 2015, she was selected to the USA HP Select Continental Team.
"We are happy to welcome Rachel into our Murray State Volleyball family," said Schwepker.
"We have been recruiting her since her sophomore year and feel that she will be a great fit for our system. She is one of those players that just 'gets' what is going on out on the court and can get the job done. She knows how to score and come through big in tight situations. For me as a coach, this is exactly what I am looking for."

Emily Matson, 6-0, OH/MB/OPP, Waukesha, Wis., Waukesha High School
A two-time team captain at Waukesha High, Matson is a two-time Classic Eight All-Conference honoree. Matson helped lead her club team to the 14 Premier Division AAU National Championship and also won two titles at the JVA World Challenge and GLPL. She is also active in clubs and organizations at WHS and is a member of the National Honor Society.
"Of all the places that are closer to home that Emily could have gone to continue her volleyball career, we are extremely happy that she has chosen Murray State as her new home for the next four years," continued Schwpeker.
"She is a very versatile and explosive athlete and has experience playing all three front row positions. Another huge plus is that she is also very good in the back row."
"Both are great academically and will fit in with the high academic standards of our volleyball program and athletic department at MSU."
