All-Time vs. NKU: Northern Kentucky leads the all-time series 9-3
Last Meeting: MSU 72, NKU 69 (OT) – Dec. 10, 2016
The Murray State women looks for its first victory of the season Saturday night at the CFSB Center as Northern Kentucky comes to town for a 6 p.m., tip-off. The Racers are coming off an 88-59 loss Wednesday in their home opener to Butler. Ke'Shunan James led MSU with 21 points in the loss while Jasmine Borders had 12 points and hit three 3-pointers. Butler shot 61.4 percent in the game while the Racers shot just 32.2 percent. James' 21-point effort marked her fifth consecutive game dating back to last season where she has scored at least 20 points.
In the loss against Butler, James broke a tie with Mariah Robinson (2009-13) for seventh-place on the all-time career-scoring list in program history and now sits alone with 1,604 points. Next up on the list is Jennifer Parker (1990-94) who is sixth with 1,680 career points.
The last time the Racers and Norse faced off was last season in Highland Heights, Ky., as the Racers won a 72-69 overtime thriller. James led MSU in that game with 24 points as the Racers snapped a three-game skid at the time. It was the first time the two schools had faced one another since 1981.
Molly Glick's 13 points per game lead the Norse as she is the only player in double figures through the first two games of the season for Northern Kentucky. Samari Mowbray is NKU's top reserve as she is second on the team averaging 8.5 points per game off the bench. Kailey Coffey leads the squad with 9.5 rebounds per contest while Grace White is averaging 7.5 to go along with six points per game. In the Norse's two losses this season to Kent State and Illinois State, they are shooting just 31.7 percent from the floor and 27.5 percent from 3-point range.
After Saturday night, the Racers will hit the road for their next two contests, as they will travel to Lipscomb Tuesday and Louisville Friday.
