Racers Zoom To Third Win In 2016-17 Season

The Murray State women's golf team scored their third victory of the 2016-17 season when they scored an 11-shot win at the Spring Citrus Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.

The Racers carded scores of 306-295-291=892 and easily won the event over runner-up Florida Gulf Coast who had scores of 300-304-297=901. Western Kentucky (903), Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (904) and host Morehead State (914) made up the top-5.

The Racers played the last 36 holes at only 10-over-par and turned an eight-shot deficit into an 11-shot win.
MSU senior Moa Folke made a run at the individual title, but fell short after scores of 78-67-71=212 to place second behind FGCU's Madeline Marck-Sherk who had scores of 71-71-70=212.

A pair of MSU freshmen, Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria and Raeysha Surendran had solid seventh and 22nd place finishes for MSU. Puente had rounds of 73-75-74=222 and Surendran posted scores of 80-78-70=228. It was a 33rd place finish for Jane Watts on scores of 78-78-76=223. Linette Holmslykke was well on her way to a good finish, but an incorrect scorecard disqualified her 73 in the final round. She had scores of 76-75=151 in the first two rounds.

Anna Moore was the top finisher among the 14 individuals (16th place overall) in the event on scores of on scores of 72-76-78=226. Sydney Kelley placed 63rd with scores of 85-80-80=245.

The rest of the field included Akron (916), Jacksonville State (917), Marshall (918), UMKC (922), Towson (924), Western Illinois (917), Northern Kentucky (949), Austin Peay (955) and Eastern Illinois (1011).

The Georgia State Intercollegiate (March 26-28) is next up for the Racers when they tackle Eagle's Landing Golf Club in Stockbridge, Ga.
