Murray State head volleyball coach David Schwepker has announced the addition of Rachel Holthaus, a middle blocker/ right-side hitter who will be joining Racer volleyball in the fall.
The Winona, Mo., native is a transfer from Missouri State-West Plains where she was third in the nation in hitting percentage at .421 this past season with the Grizzlies.
While in high school at Winona High, Holthaus was a four-time all-state, all-conference, all-district and all-region honoree for the Wildcats. Following her senior season, Holthaus was named runner-up for the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year Award.
"Rachel is definitely a Murray State volleyball type of player," said Schwepker.
"She has the ability to play any front row postion and also has some experience at the setting position. This makes her a very versatile athlete and able to fill multiple roles if needed. She has been very successful at the high school and junior college level and now I'm excited to see what she will be capable of at the Division I level."
Holthaus set numerous school and state records throughout her illustrious career in high school, including kills in a single season (615) and kills in the State Championship Match (36), while also being named the Big Springs Conference Most Valuable Player all four years.
Joining Holthaus in the 2017 class are Callie Anderton, Becca Fernandez, Katirah Johnson and Kolby McClelland, who committed to the Racers earlier in the fall.
