Â
Smith, from Potomac High School in Suitland, Maryland, will join the Racers as a junior for the 2017-18 season.
Â
"We are excited to welcome Anthony to the Murray State Family," Coach McMahon said. "Anthony had a great sophomore season at Barton County and will make an immediate impact in our front court. He will bring toughness, energy, and leadership to our team, both on the court and in the locker room. We're looking forward to his arrival this summer."
Â
In the 2016-17 season, Smith helped the Barton County Cougars finish 25-8 as he earned All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference first team honors and a selection to the NJCAA All-Region 6 team. Smith played in all 33 games and scored 12.7 points per game and hauled in a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game. He was a 61 percent shooter from the floor.
Â
Some of Smith's best performances included a career-high 32 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Pratt and a 21 point/13 rebound effort against the 2017 National Champions, Hutchinson. He also had a big game against Coffeyville with 24 points and 15 rebounds.
Â
Smith played at Barton County for head coach Craig Fletchall.
Â
"I've been doing this for 30 years and Anthony is one of my all-time favorites," Fletchall said. "He works hard, he competes and he's a winner. He was our captain and leader. Anthony helped us to 43 wins here at Barton in the last two years. I like his toughness and his willingness to rebound. Murray State will enjoy having him for the next two seasons."
