Racers Drop Heartbreaker At SIUE
4/9/2017 11:45:00 AM | Women's Tennis
The Murray State women's tennis team came so close to ending SIUE's undefeated season Saturday, when they dropped a close 4-3 decision in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Â
The match started with promise when they took the doubles point when Claire Chang and Alina Schibol won their match 6-2, to record their 11th win this season. Anja Loncarevic and Amina Hadzic took their match 6-4.
Â
In singles play, the Racers got match wins from Schibol at the No. 5 slot and a No. 6 singles win from Sara Bjork. The Racers only needed one win from the other four matches, but couldn't get traction as all four matches were lost in straight sets. Sara Loncarevic at No 4 was on the verge of forcing a third set, but she lost the second set 6-4.
Â
The Racers end the regular season this week at home Tuesday against Austin Peay and Saturday against Eastern Kentucky. Both matches begin at noon. The APSU match will be another set of points available in the Heritage Bank Battle of the Border.
Â
With two conference matches remaining, the Racers need to win both matches this week to have a chance to qualify for the OVC Tournament.
