First Pitch
MSU is making its first trip to the OVC Tournament since 2010 and will be the No. 6 seed facing third-seeded Belmont in the first game of the tournament. This will be the first season the championship will be held in Oxford, Ala., at Choccolocco Park. The Racers' last OVC Tournament title came in 2003.
Inside the Matchup
The Racers and Bruins met the last weekend of April this season with MSU winning 2-of-3 in the series in Nashville. Belmont leads the all-time series 18-14. This will be the first matchup in the series held at a neutral site. The last time MSU was in the OVC Tournament, it went 3-1, losing in the championship game to Tennessee Tech.
Going, Going, Gone
The Racers now have 73 home runs as a team this season, setting a new program record for single-season homers. The previous record was 69 in a season set by the 1981 squad. MSU has five players with double-digit homers on the year, including Brandon Gutzler's 16, which is tied for the second-most by an individual in a single season in MSU history.
Climbing the All-Time Ranks
Tyler Lawrence has already reached or will reach the all-time top-10 lists in program history in most offensive categories. Lawrence currently ranks first all-time in hits (260), doubles (59), RBIs (183), total bases (417) and career at-bats (825). He also ranks second all-time with 137 walks and in runs with 171. His 28 home runs are seventh all-time and his 218 games played are the most in program history.
