Racers Get Ready For Northern Kentucky This Sunday
8/28/2017 9:12:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Murray State will be on the road once again as they set their sights on the Norse of Northern Kentucky this Sunday.
What You Missed
The Racers return from their two game road trip now 3-0 overall, with 2-1 wins at Troy and South Alabama.
A well earned win in Troy saw the Racers put six shots on target, as well as goals from Miyah Watford and Harriet Withers. A wonderful lob found its way over the back line from Cori Cain who found Miyah Watford for her first goal of the year.  Withers, who came away with six shots in total, found her scoring touch at the 77th minute. Once again going to the right post, Withers curled her shot striking the inside post and watched as it rolled in for her third goal of the year.
Out in South Alabama, the Racers had to come back to get their third win of the year. The first and only goal scored by South Alabama came 15 minutes in, as a foul in the box led to a successful penalty kick, giving the Jaguars an early lead. The Racers capitalized on the errors from South Alabama, with goals coming for Withers at the 33rd and 77th minutes to give the Racers a 2-1 victory.
Getting Close
The Racers have the best start to a season since both the '02 and '03 squads won their first three games.
Making Her Mark
Withers has scored five goals in three games this year to give her a career total of 30 as a Racers. The all-time leader is Theresa Reedy (2001-04) who ended her career with 34 goals
Two Is The Magic Number
In all three regular season wins for the Racers this year, they have scored two goals in each contest.
Know Thy Foe
The Norse recetly secured a win against Appalachin State, 2-1 in overtime to advance their record to 3-1. Much like the Racers, all of the wins for Northern Kentucky have seen them score two goals against their opponents. Offensively Northern Kentucky is led by Jessica Frey, who has scored four of the teams seven goals this year. As a team, they average 1.75 goals a game and have put 28 shots on target in four games
Last Time They Met
Murray State was able to get their first victory against the Norse of Northern Kentucky back in 2014. The Racer attack was constant and relentless as they outshot the Norse 15-7 and got four goals from four different players. Bronagh Kerins and Taylor Richerson each scored her first goal of the season, while Harriet Withers and Julie Mooney notched their fourth and seventh.
All Time Record
With the win in 2014, the record between these two teams is even at 1-1-1. At home against the Norse, Murray State is 1-1-0.
Who's Next
Murray State returns to Cutchin Field to battle Little Rock in just the second home game of the season
