
Megan Smith Finishes Eighth - Racers Compete At Southern Indiana

The Murray State Cross Country squad competed in the Stegemoller Classic at Southern Indiana this Saturday at Angel Mounds.
Schools racing the event included Bellarmine University, California University of Pennsylvania, Concord University, Colorado State University-Pueblo, Lee University, Lewis University, Lincoln Memorial University, Northwest Missouri State University, Queens University of Charlotte, Trevecca Nazarene,Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University, SIU Edwardsville and University of Tennessee at Martin.
Men's Individual Results

Meagan Smith posted the best result for either the men or women with an eight place finish, finishing with a time of 18:20.8. Finishing in the top-25 for the women as well was Ida Mutai coming in 18th with a time of 18:48.8 and Caroline Grogan coming in 22nd with a time of 18:51.5. The women finished fifth out of 15 teams with a combined time of 18:48.4.
For the men, Mark Ventura came up with the result for the squad, coming in at 36th with a time of 25:53.1. The next two highest results for the men were Gavin Galanes, who came in 54th and finished with a time of 26:18.7 along with Vince Turner who came in 66th with a time of 26:55.7. As a squad, the men finished 12th in Southern Indiana.
"Both the Men's and Women's team raced well today after two hard weeks of workouts. The ladies worked well together which showed in our average time which was fifteen seconds faster than our last race. The men showed that they will compete for one another today. I am proud of each one of them for overcoming personal struggles during the race and competing for the team." Said assistant coach Adam Kiesler when asked about the performances of the two squads.
The Racers next compete in the Greater Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer State Park hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission.
