OVC Champions Open at Home Saturday

The two-time defending OVC champion and current third-ranked Murray State rifle team will kick-off its 2017-18 season Saturday at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky against Georgia Southern.
The Racers return all nine members of last year's squad for 17-18, seven of which earned All-American accolades a season ago. Freshman Dana Buesseler was head Coach Alan Lollar's only add of the off season, giving the Racers an even 10 shooters for the year.
In addition, the Racers will be bolstered by the juniors in Barbara Schläpfer, MacKenzie Martin and Alathea Sellars. Martin finished last season with an average of 1175.6, followed by Sellars at 1168.3 and Schläpfer at 1167.6. Sellars became the first Racer in program history last year to fire a 597 in air rifle when she did so in November, despite being tied by Broadstreet and bested by Roe, who shot a 598, later in the year.
After qualifying for Team USA this summer, along with Roe, Martin recently finished third at the USA Shooting Fall Selection Match. The junior posted two solid days along with a win in the eight-person finals to take home the bronze in the prestigious match.
Meike Drewell rounds out the All-Americans returning for the Racers this year, after averaging 1166.99 as a freshman last season. Junior Eric Sloan and sophomore Shelby Huber will also help the Racers this season as the push towards their third straight conference title and third national title and first since 1987.
