Racers Come Back Home To Take On Little Rock
9/5/2017 1:48:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Murray State comes back home to Cutchin Field to host the Trojans of Arkansas-Little Rock on September 8 at 3 P.M.
What You Missed
It took less than six minutes for the Racers to get on the board, as Rebecca Kubin punched her first goal of the year from inside the box to put Murray State up 1-0. The first half scoring wasn't over for the blue and gold, as Harriet Withers received a punched out ball from the keeper, striking into the top right corner to give the Racers a 2-0 lead heading to the second half.
Not wanting to let the match get away from them, the Norse struck back quickly in the second half, taking advantage of a rebound at the 47th minute to cut the lead to one. A free kick into the box from Northern Kentucky helped produce the tying goal at the 70th minute to make it a 2-2 game
The game turned into a back and forth match for the next 16 minutes, where at the 86th minute Kayla Travis took a shot from the top of the box, beating the keeper to the left side to clinch a 3-2 victory.
All We Do Is Win
With a 4-0-0 start to the year, the Racers are off to their best start in program history. Â The previous record was set by the 2002 and 2003 squads, both starting the year at 3-0-0.
Add Another Tally To The Board
Withers scored her sixth goal of the year at Northern Kentucky, putting her now with 31 career goals. She is three away from tying the all-time high of 34 goals.
"Take Me Home, Country Roads"
The Racers have been away from home since August 20, when they defeated Marshall 2-0. Since then, the blue and gold have faced Troy, South Alabama and most recently Northern Kentucky.
Know Thy Foe
The Trojans stand at 3-2 overall, with all three wins coming at home. They are led by Doro Greulich and Jaclyn Purvine, who both have two goals. As a team, the Trojans have scored 10 goals while holding their opponents to six. They have also put 35 of 60 shots on target in five games.
Last Time They Met/ All Time Record
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between these two squads. The Racers have won just once against the Trojans, with four losses and one tie in the other five attempts. The first three games featuring the two squads occurred all at the UT-Martin tournament in '02 '03 and '05. The sole win for Murray came at home on Sep 1, 2013, a 1-0 shutout.
Who's Next
It's back on the road for the Racers, as they take on the Morehead State Eagles, their first conference opponent of the year.
