Racers Finish Second At Purdue

The Murray State Racers women's track and field team competed in the Gene Edmonds Invite hosted by Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
Murray State as a team finished second only behind Purdue.
Sprints
Tamdra Lawrence finished fourth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.61. Dontavia Howard and Daijah White were the next highest finishers with times of 8.06 and 8.07 respectively.
Jabreuna Brimlett came away with another top–3 finish this year, finishing third in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.60. Taylor McCammon was the other Racer to make it to the hurdles final, finishing with a time of 8.89.
In the 200-meter race, Lawrence was once again leading Murray State with a sixth place finish and a time of 25.27. White and Anna Curlin were the next fastest Racers, with times of 26.78 and 26.87.
Middle Distance
Norma Abdur-Rafia placed fifth in the 400-meter race with a time of 58.53, posting the fastest time for Murray State in the event. D'Myia Thornton came away with a time of 59.36 and Summer Wheeler was next in line with a time of 1:02.53
Long Distance
Starting off the long distance events, Hilary McAdam secured a second place finish with a time of 2:18.10 in the 800-meters event. Amanda Parker and Mallory Unverfehrt were the other Racers to compete with times of 2:38.87 and 2:45.10.
The mile race featured three racers finishing within three seconds of each other. Ida Mutai, Meagan Smith and Rebekah Priddy finished with times of 5:23.77, 5:23.78 and 5:26.45.
Murray State saw a clean sweep of the 3000-meter race; with Smith, Priddy and Mutai taking first, second and third.
Field Events
Hope Tewes and Aubrey Main placed highest in the high jump for the Racers, each finishing with a distance of 1.56m (5' 1.25''). Brimlett placed in the top-15, with a jump of 1.51m  (4' 11.5'').
In the pole vault, Emily Heil posted a jump of 3.06m (10' 0.5''), while in the long jump, Alison Woerner cracked the top-15 with a jump of 5.26m (17'3.25'') while McCammon posted a jump of 4.90m (16' 1'').
For the triple jump, Woerner was out in front for the Racers, posting a jump of 11.07m (36' 4'') with Jada Hubert following suit with a jump of 9.99m (32' 9.6''.
Jewel Wagner and Destiny Carey led the charge in shot put and weight throw. Wagner had a throw of 14.46m (47' 5.25'') for weight throw and 12.37m (40' 7'') in shot put. Carey threw 13.73m (45' 0.5'') for weight throw and 12.07m (39' 7.25'') in shot put.

Murray State travels to Carbondale, Ill., as they take part in the Carbondale Invite hosted by Southern Illinois from Thursday, February 1 to Saturday, February 3.
