Racers Fall To Middle Tennessee

The Murray State women's tennis team competed in their first dual match of the year, as they traveled to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
After a successful tournament at Troy University earlier in the week, the Racers faced their first setback of the year, falling 7-0 to MTSU.
Stasya Sharapova and Aarja Chakraborty were the only Racers to force a third set in their respective singles matches. Sharapova won her first set 6-3 before losing the next two sets 7-6 and 1-0 (10-5). Chakraborty won her first set 6-3 as well before losing the next two sets 6-3 and 1-0 (10-3).
In doubles play, Murray State lost two of three matches, with the other match unable to be finished.
"It was a good team effort overall, and as a team we had mixed feelings after the match because we were not satisfied with the final score. We feel like we could have done a better job closing out some of those tight matches and had a legit chance of winning, but at the same time we are proud that we competed against a high caliber team that deserved to get the win in the end," said head coach Jorge Caetano.
Murray State falls to 0-1 while Middle Tennessee moves to 4-0.
The Racers are back in action on Thursday, February 8 as they host the Billikens of Saint Louis at 2:00 p.m.
