Fernandez Claims Third OVC Defensive Player of the Week

For the third time this season, Murray State sophomore libero Becca Fernandez has been named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Fernandez was a big reason why the Racers extended their winning streak to 13 as the Carol Stream, Illinois native had 54 digs in just seven sets for an average of 7.71 per set versus Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.
On Friday against EIU, Fernandez set a Murray State record for a three-set match in the rally-scoring era with 38 digs for an astounding 12.67 digs per set. She followed up that performance with 16 digs in a win over SIUE, Saturday.
Fernandez and the Racers will begin the OVC Tournament, Thursday when they take on UT Martin at 1:30. The entire championship will be hosted by Austin Peay, with the first rounds being streamed for free on ESPN3 and the semifinals and finals on ESPN+.
