Murray State head rifle coach Alan Lollar announced the signings of Matias Kiuru of Helsinki, Finland and Chloe Odle of Livingston, Tennessee.
"We are excited to welcome Chloe and Matias to the 'Racer Family'," said Lollar. "Chloe has a lot of potential and will join us in spring semester and start competing in the fall, while Matias is serving his military commitment in his home country of Finland and will join us next spring. Both of these outstanding shooters can make an immediate impact for us. Matias competed at the World Championships last fall before entering the army and did well, competing in the junior smallbore final and finishing seventh."
Kiuru, a member of the Finnish national team, bring with him plenty of international competition experience with 39 career international starts. He helped lead the Finns to team bronze medals in the 50m 3 Position juniors at both the 2017 Junior World Championships and the 2017 European Championship. He also posted a career-best seventh place finish in the individual junior 50m 3 position at this year's world championships and notched a third place finish in the 50m prone at the 2017 International Shooting Competition of Hannover.
Odle, who will join the Racers in January, has already had an accomplished 2018. This year she has won championships in 3-position air rifle for Tennessee high schools, an outdoor smallbore title and both smallbore and air rifle titles at the Tennessee USA Shooting Junior Olympic qualifier. She is a three-time USA Shooting National Junior Olympic qualifier and a two-time Civilian Marksmanship Program National Junior Olympic qualifier. In addition, she also won a state outdoor smallbore championship in 2017, as well as a smallbore championship at the 2017 Tennessee USA Shooting Junior Olympic qualifier and a 3-position air rifle championship at the 2017 Tennessee Civilian Marksmanship Program Junior Olympic event.
