Brimlett, Lawrence Win as Racers Open Season at Vanderbilt

The Murray State track and field team opened up their season, Saturday, at the Vanderbilt Opener, where multiple Racers had top-10 finishes, including a couple of wins.
Jabreuna Brimlett easily won her season debut in the 60m hurdles (8.42), better than .4 seconds better than the second-place finisher and also finished fifth in the long jump (5.75m). Jessikha Ribeiro (9.02, 4th), Dontavia Howard (9.16, 6th), and Aubrey Main (9.27, 9th, PR) also finished in the top ten in the 60m hurdles.
Tamdra Lawrence also won her season debut in the 60m with a time of 7.50. Rachel Hagans finished seventh in the same event with a time of 7.73 in her collegiate debut. Lawrence also finished eighth in the 300m (40.33), behind her teammate Norma Abdur-Rafia, who finished third (39.56).
Ribeiro and Ashlyn Oren each had impressive Racer debuts as they finished third and fourth in the high jump, both jumping 1.68 meters. Oren also finished eighth in the long jump with a mark of 5.53m.
D'Myia Thornton was the lone Racer in the 400m and ran to a third-place finish with a time of 57.79.
Shannon Riley made her debut on the track for the Racers and finished sixth in the 800m (2:30.40).
Hilary McAdam (1:34.19, PR) and JaKayla McSwain (1:40.51) placed second and fourth respectively in the 600m.
The 4x400 relay team of Thornton, Abdur-Rafia, McAdam, and Lawrence finished second (3:52.67), while the relay team of McSwain, Main, Jaysha Carter, and Daijah White placed ninth (3:59.10)
Emily Heil (3.55m) and Brooke Misukonis (3.40m) finished eighth and 10th respectively in the pole vault.
In the shot put, Christina Meinhardt placed eighth out of 33 competitors with a distance of 12.39 meters.
Murray State will now have over a month off as their next meet is not until January 12th at the Illini Classic in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois.
