UIC Edges Racers On Day Two of Racer Classic

Just The Facts
The Murray State softball dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Illinois-Chicago Saturday on the second day of the 2018 Racer Classic at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky.
How It Happened
Murray State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the game on a good piece of base running by Brenna Finck and Lillie Goetz that allowed Goetz to steal home. However, in the third, Claire Crane tied the game with a sacrifice fly, while Skylee James put the Flames ahead with a RBI single.
Following the runs by UIC, Murray State pitchers Have Campbell and Amber Van Duyse combined to retire the final 13 batters of the game. Despite the effort defensively, Murray State could not could not get anything going offensively and produced just three hits and stranded five runners in the final five innings.
In The Circle
Haven Campbell took the loss for MSU by giving up two runs on five hits, despite striking out a season-high seven batters. Amber Van Duyse closed out the game by tossing the final 1.1 innings and allowed no runs or hits with one strikeout.
Offensive Highlights
Madison Culver was 2-for-3 on the day for the Racers, while Lexi Jones was a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk.
