Murray State got a first inning two-run home run from Ramsey Scott, but was slowed from there on Friday night as the Racers fell in their series opener at Austin Peay, 10-2 at Raymond C. Hand Park in Clarksville, Tenn.

The homer was Scott's team-best fourth of the season as he was one of just four Racers (10-8, 2-2 OVC) that recorded a hit in the loss. Brandon Gutzler went 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks and also scored the other run on Scott's blast. Mike Farnell and Davis Sims were both 1-of-3 in the loss.

The Governors (11-7, 3-1 OVC) got five runs in the bottom of the first after MSU took the early lead. The big blow came via a grand slam by Imani Willis. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when APSU would push its lead to 6-2. A three-run seventh and another run in the bottom of the eight made it 10-2.

Peyton Hayes took the loss in his first decision of the season. Hayes got the start on the mound and went five innings, allowing six runs, five of which were earned on five hits while striking out five APSU batters. Luke Brown, Caleb Hicks and Connor Holden all appeared in relief on the night.

The loss snaps MSU's three-game winning streak. Game two of the series will be at 2 p.m., Saturday.
